A plastic or metal cup is attached to the baby’s head and a vacuum is created by suction.

On each contraction the doctor helps the baby in time with you pushing until the baby’s head is delivered.

After delivery your baby may have bruising on the scalp where the vacuum was created but this will subside over a few days.
