Baby Acne

Baby acne is a common condition in newborn babies. Baby acne occurs predominantly on a baby’s cheeks, nose and forehead but can actually occur anywhere on the face.  It looks like small red bumps or little white heads.  The most common time for it to present is within the first two to four weeks after birth. It can last a few weeks or even up to a few months.  There is no treatment required for baby acne.

There are a few little things you can do that may help:

  • Wash your baby’s face with a soft facecloth and just some warm water every day , once or twice a day.
  • Don’t rub the skin, just pat it dry gently.
  • Don’t squeeze or pick at any of the little spots as you risk introducing infection.
  • Don’t use any creams or lotions on your babies face.
  • Try to not to let spit, vomit, milk and all of the other things that usually get all over their face stay there for long or dry in.

Consult your baby’s doctor if you’re concerned about any aspect of your baby’s complexion.
